in the March 2021 issue

Since we opened our doors in 1967, innovation has been central to Seneca’s culture and success. This has included groundbreaking academic programs, an early embrace of distance learning, leadership in continuing education, the first degree at an Ontario college, and many firsts in technology.

Through Seneca Innovates, a program launched by Seneca Innovation in the summer of 2020, all employees can submit their ideas, inspirations, and suggestions for solving a problem, improving a service or process, or changing something for the better at Seneca. Submitting an idea is the first step. The Seneca Innovates initiative will help innovators to refine their ideas, build partnerships, and implement them through assistance from the Innovation Council.

The Innovation Council, consisting of a diverse, multi-campus group of innovators and creative thinkers, has two types of members:

  • Innovation Champions guide innovators along the path of building partnerships, refining the idea, and preparing a pitch.
  • Innovation Reviewers review finalized ideas and pitches, and make recommendations to Seneca’s Senior Executive Committee about implementing them.

If you have an idea, please visit www.senecacollege.ca/senecainnovates; you will be asked to complete some information about yourself, then describe the innovative solution you have.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Innovation Council, please provide the following information to innovation@senecacollege.ca:

  • the type of council member you would like to volunteer as (Innovation Champion, Innovation Reviewer, or both); and
  • area(s) of expertise in which you can contribute to developing an innovative idea.
