At Seneca, all programs participate in a periodic summative review process. The review is not only a snapshot of the program at the time but also allows faculty and administration to reflect on opportunities for future program development.
The program review looks at four major areas:
The primary goal of the process is identifying an action plan for the program going forward, which is presented to senior administration.
The review process is a collaborative effort between the program and Program Quality (PQ). Faculty and chairs act as subject matter experts and their understanding of the program environment is essential to the process. They provide evidence-informed support of the analysis though their insightful knowledge of the program’s curriculum and industry sector.
PQ supports the faculty team with data collection/analysis and clarification of academic policy and college procedures. Crucial to the review is the PQ review facilitator. They are faculty members, outside of the program, who understand the process and facilitate reflection. Their focus is to integrate the review team’s insight and help craft the final review deliverables.
2016 PQ Review Facilitator Profile: Professor Alka Bhushan
Professor Bhushan teaches Economics in the School of English and Liberal Studies.
In 2016, she facilitated the Accounting Techniques and Hospitality Management - Hotel and Restaurant Services Management summative reviews where she helped the faculty team create meaningful recommendations and actions for the future. She found the process to be very interesting and enjoyed learning about different aspects of the College.
Professor Bhushan will be returning as a review facilitator in 2017.
