February 14 Strawberry Ceremony

Commemorating Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA People

In First Nations cultures, women are considered the heartbeat of every nation as they raise and nurture each member of a nation. Therefore, the heart-shaped strawberry is known as the woman’s berry. On February 14th each year, people gather in Toronto for a Strawberry Ceremony in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people. This year the ceremony will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM EST on Facebook Live.

In support of this event, faculty and staff at Seneca have created a webpage featuring ways they are working to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA Calls for Justice.
