Hackathons are creative problem-solving events where post-secondary students and graduates may refine their technical abilities and critical thinking while working on real-world problems faced by businesses. It's a fantastic learning opportunity that covers all the main qualities that employers are looking for today. A hackathon is a problem-solving training session for participants.
Held during the Winter 2022 reading week, the 2022 Sustainability Hackathon encourage varied collection of people creates a team and decide to work closely together to develop answers to certain challenges or "challenge sets." A cause hackathon, such as this one on sustainability, is an event aimed at raising awareness of global issues and creating opportunities for participants to get involved in making the world a better place.
The PRME Working Group was privileged to support the 2022 Sustainability Hackathon by hosting the Open Challenge Set allowing participants maximum flexibility in creating their proof of concept, as they selected one or more of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and applied them to a local business or business school initiative.
The winners of Open Challenge Set and the Category-level runners up, were Team Simit. They are eligible for a joint $500 dollar cash prize and an invitation to present their exciting proof of concept at our upcoming applied research conference.

Remember that Seneca Business participants whose teams provided a submission are eligible for certification through the PRME Rewards and Recognition (R&R) Program.
