About the Initiative

PARCON 2024's theme, Driving Sustainable Change through Business Innovation, showcases the role innovation plays within the business sector in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals.

The 3rd Annual PRME Applied Research Conference (PARCON) 2024, happening on June 25, 2024 at the Newnham Campus, invites students (individual or group) to submit abstracts on innovative business solutions for sustainability. This is your chance to present your research and ideas, and elevate your public speaking skills!

Students can contribute in various forms, including literature reviews, case studies, project proposals, conceptual frameworks, or personal experiences and reflections. Only an abstract (200 to 400 words) is required; no full paper is needed.

The conference invites abstract submissions in five major themes:

  • Social entrepreneurship
  • Circular economy initiatives
  • Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Impact investing
  • Measurement and reporting

Literature Review

Summarize existing research on sustainable practices in the fashion industry, highlighting key findings and potential areas for further research.

Case Study

Example: "Company X's Transition to a Circular Economy"

Analyze how Company X implemented circular economy principles to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency.

Project Proposal

Example: "Starting an Urban Rooftop Garden in Downtown Toronto"

Outline a plan for creating an urban rooftop garden that enhances local food production, and engages the community.

Conceptual Framework

Example: "A Model for Evaluating the Impact of AI on Reducing Carbon Emissions"

Develop a theoretical model to assess how artificial intelligence can be used to reduce carbon emissions in various industries.

Personal Experience

Example: "Navigating the classroom as a Neurodiverse Individual and How AI can assist: Insights and Recommendations"

Reflect on your personal experiences as a neurodiverse individual in the classroom and propose strategies for fostering more inclusive environments.

Format and Submission Instructions

  • Abstract Length: Ensure your abstract is concise yet comprehensive, between 200-400 words.
  • Keywords: Include a selection of 5 pertinent keywords.
  • Presentation Opportunity: Presenters will have the chance to share their findings (15-30 minutes) (length tbc)
  • Contributor Information: Each submission must include a professional biography of all contributors; a full paper is not required.
  • Originality: Uphold originality in your submitted abstracts, in alignment with Seneca Polytechnic’s Academic Integrity Policy.

STEP 1: Decide on the type of presentation you want to make and whether you will present alone or as part of a group

STEP 2: Prepare Your Abstract and Include Contributor Information

  • Write a brief but thorough abstract (200-400 words).
  • Include 5 relevant keywords.
  • Ensure your abstract follows Seneca Polytechnic's Academic Integrity Policy.
  • Each submission must include a professional biography of all contributors.
  • Submit your abstract here by May 31, 2024.

STEP 3: Wait for Selection Confirmation

  • Notification Date: June 7, 2024
  • Check your email for the selection confirmation.

STEP 4: Prepare your Presentation and Register as an Attendee

  • Create a presentation deck (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.).
  • Submission Deadline: June 19, 2024
  • Follow format requirements and ensure for a 15-30 minute presentation (length tbc)

STEP 5: Attend PARCON 2024 and Present Your Work

  • Event Date: June 25, 2024
  • Location: Seneca Polytechnic, Newnham Campus
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (TBC)
  • Present your research during the panel (15-30 minutes).
  • Engage with the audience and answer questions.
  • Connect with industry experts, peers, and mentors

STEP 6: Receive Your Certification

  • Get your Certification of Achievement as recognition for your participation.
