Changing Item Visibility and Setting Release Conditions

You can change the visibility of your course content. In addition to hiding the content, or making it visible, you can set release conditions that specify who, and when students can view the content.


Changing an Item’s Visibility

Follow these steps to change an item's visibility.

  2. Select the item (e.g., test, assignment, document, etc.) you want to edit.Screenshot of step 2 on Option 1 as explained on this page
  3. Select the eye icon or text next to the icon. A drop-down menu is displayed.Screenshot of step 3 on Option 1 as explained on this page
  4. Select the visibility of your choice from the drop-down menu including: Screenshot of step 4 on Option 1 as explained on this page 
    • Visible to students: Content is visible to students.
    • Hidden from students: Content is hidden from students. 
    • Release conditions: Choose which course members and groups will have access to this content, when (date), and under what performance criteria (grade requirement).

Setting Release Conditions

  1. Select Release conditions. The Release Conditions panel is displayed.Screenshot of step 1 on Setting Release Conditions as explained on this page.

  2. Select Specific members or groups to change who can view the item. Note: You can specify whether the content will be visible to the entire class or specific students/groups.

  3. Select Date/Time to specify the date and time the item will appear and disappear.

  4. Select Performance to set a performance requirement for an assignment, quiz, or attendance. Performance settings is displayed.

  5. Complete one of the following tasks:
    • Select Show if you want students to see the item, but not able to access it. Note: When they hover their mouse over the item, the release conditions will appear.
    • Select Hide to hide the item until the release conditions are met. 
  6. Select Save.
