Setting well-defined goals each year allows you to identify opportunities for personal and professional growth and articulate your commitment to continuous development in your teaching practice. Goals are linked to the actions, resources and timelines needed to achieve them.
Use the guidelines below to develop at least two goals that you would like to work on over the next year. Goals may be short-term or long-term. Document these goals using the Goal Setting Template or an alternative format of your choice (i.e., paragraphs, audio, visual, etc.). Be prepared to discuss these goals with your Chair during your annual conversation.
As you develop your goals, consider the specific skills, competencies and aspects of teaching that you want to strengthen. Refer to your teaching reflections, self-assessments, and the feedback you have received from class visits and Course Assessment Surveys. It may also be helpful to review Seneca’s Standards of Practice, Seneca’s strategic plan The Next, Seneca’s Reconciliation and Inclusion Plan, and Seneca’s Sustainability Plan.
You are invited to use a holistic approach to goal setting, meaning that your goals would be informed by your personal, social and cultural identities, and represent the values, mindsets and attitudes that reflect who you are and what you value as an educator.
