The Teaching & Learning Centre offers a variety of professional development resources, courses, workshops, and events for all faculty on-demand and throughout the year. Additional Seneca PD opportunities can be found on the Employee Development & Engagement space and on MyPD.

Seneca employees also have access to the LinkedIn Learning library of over 14,000 courses on a variety of topics. 

Maintaining Currency

Seneca is proud of our highly qualified professors. Keeping up to date in one’s field of expertise is a requirement for all Seneca faculty, especially those teaching in degree programs. Yet time and budget considerations may constrain available professional development opportunities, making remaining current a common challenge for many career professors.

Here are some strategies that you can explore for maintaining professional currency:

• Organize a monthly journal or book club for your program or School. Take turns summarizing current research or trends in your field.
• Subscribe to automated feeds or social media. Visit Seneca Libraries’ helpful guide to setting up alerts, RSS feeds, and social media and receive notifications when new articles and resources are published.
• Listen to podcasts. Turn a boring commute to work into a learning opportunity.
• Participate in an Applied Research project – and involve your students. Visit Seneca Innovation to learn more.
• Assign a current trends project to your students. Incorporate a current trends or literature review project and presentation into your course assignments and learn together with your students.
• Invite guest speakers to your classes. Both you and your students will benefit from the expertise of invited industry professionals.
• Join a professional society special interest group or online meetup. Stay connected with colleagues from near and far through online meetings.
