Enable Respondus Monitor on an Exam

Note: If you choose to use Respondus Monitor, you are responsible for providing additional set-up instructions for your students, including the Respondus Monitor Checklist for Students (PDF)Respondus Monitor requires webcam and audio permissions.

  1. Navigate to and open the LockDown Browser Dashboard (see Access the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard).
  2. Select the green arrow beside the assessment title you want Respondus Monitor enabled. This will expand a drop-down menu. Select Settings.
  3. Select the following options to enable Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor:

      • Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam
      • Require Respondus Monitor (automated proctoring) for this exam
      • Webcam + Screen

Note: It is recommended to review all options in the Advanced Settings menu under the LockDown Browser Settings. You can hover on each of the explain tips to learn more about each setting. It is discouraged to use the Allow instructor live proctoring for this exam (via Zoom, Teams, etc.,) option due to accessibility.

  4. Review the About Respondus Monitor window that appears once you've selected to enable Respondus Monitor, and select Continue to Respondus Monitor to dismiss the pop-up.
  5. Review the Startup Sequence settings. The Startup Sequence is a set of optional events that the student goes through during the Pre-Exam section of the exam. You can choose to use or remove any of these options or customize the pre-exam startup for your students. If a student is disconnected during the exam, they will need to complete the start-up sequence again once reconnected which will count towards their exam time limit.
  6. Review Face Detection Options.
  7. Review Advanced Settings.
  8. Select Save+ Close when you have reviewed the LockDown Browser and Proctoring settings. You can edit these settings again from the LockDown Browser Dashboard. On the dashboard, you will now see that your exam has been changed from 'Not Required' to 'Required' under the LockDown Browser and Proctoring columns.
  9. Navigate to your assessment on the Course Content page, beside your assessment you will now see a shield icon () beside 'Proctored'.
