Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser that prevents students from navigating away from the exam page during an online test. It blocks access to other websites, applications, and tools to ensure a controlled testing environment. When combined with Respondus Monitor, an AI-powered proctoring solution, the system takes online testing security a step further by recording students during exams. Monitor flags suspicious behaviors or irregularities, enabling faculty to review and maintain academic integrity.

Please note that while Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor integrates with Learn@Seneca and can help deter academic integrity infractions, the software is not foolproof. Respondus will not eliminate all possibilities of academic integrity violations, nor does it guarantee accessibility. Please consider alternative assessments to maintain the integrity and accessibility of online assessments.
The Quick guide to secure handling of confidential student information for faculty using online learning tools (.PDF) (developed by the Teaching & Learning Centre and ITS) helps faculty choose secure online tools for teaching. The guide provides guidelines and examples to help faculty consider the information students might be giving up when using a new tool. It is intended for quick use of free or low-cost online tools and not for larger, more costly tools that require more rigorous data privacy vetting.
