Teaching in the age of AI is exciting, full of questions, and sometimes a little uncertain. We are learning right alongside our learners as they experiment with these tools in creative and often surprising ways, and we are all figuring out how to keep up together. This fall’s Teaching & Learning Day, happening online on October 21, is a chance to pause, share what we’ve discovered so far, and support each other as we help students use AI responsibly and authentically.
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Sarah Elaine Eaton from the University of Calgary, is a trusted voice on academic integrity and AI in higher education, and she brings both expertise and practical guidance. In her session, "Academic Integrity in the Age of AI," Dr. Eaton will explore questions many of us are thinking about. What counts as cheating when AI is involved? How can we teach students to use these tools ethically? And how should we rethink assignments when AI can write essays and solve problems? She will offer examples, research insights, and practical strategies to help us move from uncertainty toward more confident teaching and decision making in the classroom.
The afternoon sessions build on these conversations and offer hands-on ideas you can use right away. Topics include AI-informed assessment, sustainability and AI, and how to help students engage deeply in learning without letting AI replace the effort real learning requires. Colleagues from the Academic Integrity Council of Ontario (AICO) will share helpful resources, and Seneca Libraries will showcase supports available for both faculty and students.
We know that everyone is doing their best to teach thoughtfully and uphold academic standards while adapting to rapid change. This online day is designed to support you, to share what is working in real classrooms, and to strengthen our Seneca teaching community as we explore the challenges and possibilities of AI together.
This event is brought to you by The Teaching & Learning Centre, together with our colleagues in Applied Research and Seneca Libraries. Sign up today on MyPD!
