August 27, 2020
Part of the Teaching & Learning Summer Conference 2020
We have learned from previous speakers at Seneca such as Joe Kim and Megan Sumeraki that research in the Science of Learning can help instructors design evidence-informed educational experiences. However, for several reasons, research about how the brain learns has given rise to many myths in teaching and learning. In the first part of this workshop, we will explore the possible reasons for this and consider how we might think critically about the education research we encounter. In the second part of the workshop, we will consider how research in the Science of Learning can inform instructional practice in the areas of active learning, formative feedback, and how we think about thinking, particularly in online contexts.
