Second Career – reminder about recent changes

Second Career is a grant program offered through the Provincial Government. It covers training costs for laid-off/unemployed people.  Up to $28,0000 is available to students for tuition, books, basic living & childcare.

The new criteria includes:

    • Maximum duration 52 weeks (down from 24 months)
    • Prioritizes lower skills workers laid off due to COVID-19
    • Covers certificates, accelerated programs and micro-credentials
    • Programs can be full-time or part-time
    • Training for in demand occupations:
      • Advanced manufacturing
      • Life science
      • Information & communication technology
      • Supportive health services

Each academic area has a role – a student applying to Seneca, who also wants Second Career funding, need to complete a Seneca application AND an Employment Ontario Second Career application. The Second Career application will require information from each department such as cost breakdown and letter of acceptance.
