On April 23, the School College Work Initiative (SCWI) hosted a Healthcare Pathways Event for York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Adult students. These select students are working towards completing their education. Teachers and their students were welcomed to beautiful King campus by the Dual Credit Team for a day of experiential workshops.

The interactive workshops highlighted five of Seneca’s health and wellness programs including: Nursing, Veterinary Technician & Veterinary Assistant, Therapeutic Recreation, Fitness and Health Promotion, and Honours Bachelor of Healthcare Administration. Industry- experienced faculty led a series of workshops which were supported by current Seneca students, giving prospective adult students unique insight into campus life.

Workshop examples included a tour of the Nanji Foundation School of Nursing, including our state-of-the-art Patient Care Simulation Lab which allows students to simulate direct care in a healthcare setting. In the skills lab, students learned how to safely measure and give an injection.

Students interested in our Honours Bachelor of Healthcare Administration programs were able to speak with Professor Peivand Pirouzi about the requirements and skills offered in the program. Students learned of the industry and the many job opportunities after graduation.

A student from YRDSB Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning shared, “The school staff were incredibly welcoming. The activity we participated in was particularly enlightening, especially for someone like me who aspires to become a nurse. The experience reignited my passion for pursuing this career path. I hold the institution in high regard for offering such an exceptional program that I believe will greatly contribute to my growth and help me achieve my dream.”

To complete a fantastic day, Marisa Vipond from Student Recruitment, spoke with students about their potential futures at Seneca Polytechnic and the next steps for them.  Students were given all the information they needed to succeed in their post-secondary education.

Seneca is proud to offer online Adult Dual Credit courses and hopes to welcome back many YRDSB and TCDSB’s students into our virtual classrooms and beyond!
