Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) represent broad concepts related to fairness and social justice in the world, including the daily actions and interactions in our classrooms. As teachers, we work every day to build the best possible learning environment for our students. Reflecting on our teaching and learning activities through an EDI lens is a powerful step in ensuring barrier-free learning for all, where everyone belongs and can succeed. 

Reflecting on EDI Principles

Seneca’s commitment to EDI in our classrooms is illustrated in our Reconciliation and Inclusion Plan: A Shared Commitment with Responsibilities. Take a moment to review the areas of focus and stated goals in this plan.

Then, if you would like, take a moment to reflect on EDI core concepts that are fundamental to faculty work in this area. Here are two comprehensive EDI learning modules that explore these topics.

• Identity, Power and Privilege: This module presents reflective exercises, informative activities and videos to help you explore and consider how identities, power and privilege intersect with your teaching pedagogy and personal, professional and academic lives.
• Taking the Unconscious out of Bias: This module explores the role of Implicit Bias in the classroom and helps us design learning experiences that are fair and equitable for all students.
