Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence such as: recognizing patterns, making predictions, generating text or images, etc. AI can perform these tasks by utilizing machine learning, algorithms, transformers (ANNs, GPTs, etc.), deep learning, and large language module training to simulate human thoughts and actions. While AI has existed for decades, recent advancements have rapidly expanded its presence in everyday systems and industries, including education.
AI is reshaping how we teach, learn, and understand information. From adaptive learning tools that personalize content, to automated supports that help students practice cognitive and communication skills, AI-driven technologies are becoming part of the modern learning environment.
Thoughtful integration of AI means helping students develop the skills to navigate and critically evaluate these technologies. These tools can offer new opportunities for student engagement and creativity, while also prompting important conversations about digital literacy, academic integrity, understanding AI’s limitations and potential biases, and exploring its impact on society, work, the environment and knowledge creation.
Seneca Polytechnic is committed to supporting faculty and students in building AI literacy across all programs. Through a human‑centered approach, we aim to empower learners to use AI ethically, creatively, and responsibly to strengthen academic learning while preparing students for a future where AI will have a role in every field.
