Phone home! Teaching & Learning Day February 24, 2026
"Emerging Technologies: Advancing High-Quality Learning Experiences"

Technology is evolving faster than ever, reshaping how we teach, learn, and connect. Artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging digital tools spark curiosity, encourage experimentation, and inspire thoughtful innovation in our classrooms.

Inspired by the iconic Steven Spielberg film "E.T.", this year’s conference theme invites us to balance curiosity with intention. Just as E.T. learned to “phone home,” we are called to explore emerging technologies that help us connect ideas, deepen learning, and strengthen our teaching practice. Together, we will examine thoughtful, innovative, and perhaps even a little magical, ways to “phone home” in our classrooms.

Join us in person on February 24th at Seneca’s Newnham Campus for Teaching & Learning Day Winter 2026, a day focused on Emerging Technologies in our ever‑changing educational landscape. The program features an engaging keynote on today’s most transformative technologies, an open and honest student panel discussion, and workshops that offer practical ways of implementing this technology into your own teaching.

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Nicole Johnson, is a leading expert with more than two decades of experiences examining macro-level digital learning trends. Her presentation “AI and Emerging Technologies: Preparing Students for a Changing World,” will explore how educators can equip students to thrive in a future increasingly shaped by AI and emerging technologies. The session will also offer forward-looking strategies to support thoughtful technology adoption while building strong digital literacy skills.

The student panel provides a valuable opportunity for candid dialogue about the use of AI in learning. Hearing directly from students offers firsthand perspectives that can enrich instructional approaches and inform responsible, effective classroom practices.

Building on these conversations, our workshop sessions offer practical, immediately applicable ideas. Topics include creating custom AI assistants, exploring AI-powered features in Mentimeter and Blackboard, and examining responsible and pedagogically sound uses of AI in education.

We recognize the care and commitment educators bring to upholding academic integrity while adapting to rapid technological change. This Teaching & Learning Day is designed to support that work by sharing what’s working in real classrooms, fostering collegial exchange, and strengthening our Seneca teaching community as we explore the challenges and possibilities of emerging technologies together.

This event is brought to you by The Teaching & Learning Centre. Sign up today on MyPD!
