Will students see a change in their ancillary fee payments in 2026–27?
It is possible that some students may see changes in the amount they pay compared to previous terms. Some may see their costs reduced, while others will see an increase.
Why will students at Seneca@York be seeing an increase in ancillary fees?
In past years, students at Seneca@York, paid lower ancillary fees because fees were campus-based, not course load-based. With the implementation of the course-based ancillary fee structure, Seneca@York students will now pay fees in alignment with students at Seneca’s other campuses and have the same access to shared services and supports.
Seneca@York students taking three or more courses can expect an increase of approximately $94 in their ancillary fees each semester. There will not be a significant increase for those taking two courses or less.
Why will students studying exclusively online be seeing an increase in ancillary fees?
Previously, online students paid lower ancillary fees because the fees did not include several campus-based services.
Now, those studying online have access to more services, including athletics and recreation, and Seneca Student Federation activities, which are funded through the ancillary fee framework.
This is resulting in an estimated fee increase of $253 each semester for those taking three or more courses. There will not be a significant increase for those taking two courses or less.
Is there a unique ancillary fee for students at Seneca’s Peterborough Campus?
Students at Peterborough Campus will continue to pay a separate fee because of an agreement with Fleming College for access to their recreation and wellness facilities.
