Clear Communication in the Workplace with OSLT

“I have been noticing that your emails in English are much clearer now…makes things faster for both of us.” is feedback an OSLT alumni received from their employer.  Communicating clearly in the workplace is crucial.  Students in OSLT (Occupation-specific Language Training) classes gain the necessary skills to work effectively in their careers.

OSLT students practice email writing, taking part in meetings, and presentation skills while learning about the workplace culture and adapting communication to suit specific purposes.  Gathering and sharing information and learning how to resolve even challenging interactions are part of the OSLT curriculum.

New OSLT classes, Accounting and Finance, Technology and Business Entrepreneurship, Sales and Marketing will start April 2023.  Classes are free for eligible students.  Classes are all online with students meeting on Zoom twice a week.

To be eligible for these free OSLT courses, students need to be Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees, (not Canadian citizens or Refugee Claimants), have a Canadian Language Benchmark level 6 – 8, and have prior work experience or training in the sector.

IRCC has also opened up the eligibility criteria to include Ukrainian students with a Temporary Residence and their dependents.  These students still need to have a CLB assessment level 6 – 8 as well as relevant work or training experience.

Students interested in OSLT can email the coordinator for more information:
