Seneca is committed to expanding its access and support to all students and employees with disabilities, by having as its goal a barrier-free learning and working environment to enable academic and employment success. It is the goal to make Seneca barrier-free by 2025 by being proactive in having our services, policies and procedures, including college services and facilities more accessible to the needs of all people with disabilities.
In 2005, Ontario introduced its first legislation, designed to create a province of inclusion for people with disabilities - the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The AODA sets out the structure by which we can make Ontario accessible to all people by 2025.
Seneca College embraces the requirements of the AODA. The purpose of the AODA is to develop, implement and enforce accessibility standards so businesses and organizations that provide goods and services will have rules to meet to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility.
The law has set standards that help people with disabilities participate fully in their communities.
Ontario has mandatory Accessibility Standards in 5 key areas of daily living:
Accessibility is everyone’s business, it should be at the forefront when planning anything and each member of the Seneca College community has a responsibility to make the implementation of the AODA a priority.
