On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Teaching & Learning hosted two virtual kick-off sessions for the Winter 2024 Curriculum Integration project. The sessions were dedicated to introducing faculty champions to the project, overviewing the framework and approach, and reviewing the deliverables and schedule. Faculty champions also had a chance to engage in discussion with their fellow champions in a breakout session. Note: All sessions are open to non-faculty champions.
In addition to the kick-off sessions, the CI team also hosted an optional virtual Q&A session on January 25th, where faculty champions were given an opportunity to ask more specific questions. The Q&A session generated great discussions and ideas. Thanks to everyone who participated—looking forward to Week 1!

Seneca’s Curriculum Café is a bi-weekly informal get-together where faculty share and learn about curriculum integration in Truth & Reconciliation (TRC), Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), and Sustainability (SUS).
Curious about how Seneca's policies demonstrate a dedication to accessibility? We are happy to introduce Pamela Maynard [Video], the Manager of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) in the Office of Reconciliation and Inclusion. Watch her video to learn about Pamela’s role and responsibilities in advocating for accessibility within Seneca. Additionally, she sheds light on the various domains she engages in to promote inclusivity.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is integral for authentic course design. With UDL, educators consider three principles: multiple means of engagement, representation and action and expression. Many professors already acknowledge the diversity of learners in the classroom, but UDL furthers this by placing student lived experiences at the forefront of engagement. Examples of UDL practices include less lecturing and concept checking via tests and quizzes with more emphasis on creating experiential activities and assessments. For example, are final projects essay-based questions or can they be reconfigured, so students choose various submission formats that suit their abilities? Or can students share personal reflections in their submissions as long as learning outcomes are being met? By reflecting on UDL and implementing it throughout course design, educators advance Seneca’s Curriculum Integration journey.
