Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor are remote proctoring applications for online testing. Together, they lock down the testing environment for online testing and use the student’s webcam to record and analyze the student while they are taking the test to deter cheating. They use artificial intelligence to analyze the recordings – facial detection, motion, and lighting, as well as keyboard activity, mouse movements, and hardware changes are flagged and any suspicious activity is then reported to the instructor.

Our Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor resource space has been designed to provide faculty, instructors, and students with the tools and guidance they need to complete online assessments on a secure, proctored platform. Whether you’re a seasoned user or new to Respondus tools, this space is your go-to hub for how-to articles, best practices, and resources.

Please note that while Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor integrates with Learn@Seneca Blackboard Ultra, and can help deter academic integrity infractions, the software is not foolproof. Respondus will not eliminate all possibilities of academic integrity violations, nor does it guarantee accessibility. Please consider alternative assessments to maintain the integrity and accessibility of online assessments.

For information on designing your assessments to promote academic integrity, see our Promote Integrity Online page, our Let Slip the Dogs of War: The current e-proctoring dilemma article, and our Promoting Academic Integrity Online video.
