  1. Students and Student Success

Faculty need to understand how learners acquire knowledge and develop conceptual understandings in order to design and implement effective learning experiences. Faculty should recognize individual differences and the diverse cultures and communities of their students to ensure that their lessons are inclusive, and that each learner can meet high standards.

The Standards of Practice for Students and Student Success include the following:

    • Understanding patterns of learning and development, as well as recognizing that learners vary individually in cognitive, social, and emotional domains.

    • Respecting diverse learning needs of students.

    • Creating an environment that supports both independent and collaborative learning, self-motivation, and active engagement.

    • Enhancing curriculum relevance by integrating career readiness skills aligned with Seneca’s strategic priorities, including a knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (TRC), Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Sustainability, and Human Skills.

    • Engaging in ethical and reflective practices to continually improve teaching strategies.

    • Being available to students, communicating care, and fostering a sense of belonging for all.

    • Demonstrating a passion for the subject, teaching, and learning.
