    Faculty understand the key concepts and tools of inquiry in their field, creating learning experiences that are accessible and meaningful for students, and ensuring content proficiency. They use their professional knowledge to enhance student learning and are skilled in pedagogical strategies of their field to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving on local and global issues.

    The Standards of Practice for Professional Knowledge include the following:

    • Understanding the pedagogical content knowledge of the discipline and using evidence-based practices to create authentic learning experiences.

    • Grounding teaching in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research to ensure the use of productive methods.

    • Building competency in effective teaching approaches across delivery modalities.

    • Engaging in academic communities of practice to share and spark new ideas.

    • Using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to inform practice.

    • Identifying industry and professional practices that align with the TRC’s Calls to Action, Environmental, Social and Governance activities, and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
