Second Bundle in the Faculty Development Program

Course
5/8/2024 (All day)
hybrid from Newnham Campus

The second bundle of courses in the Faculty Development Program consists of three components:

  • Technology-Enhanced Learning
Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) is designed to help participants explore and use academic technology to enhance teaching and learning. Through experiential means, participants will be exposed to a wide variety of academic technologies and the teaching and learning techniques/methodologies used in the implementation of these technologies.
Participants will complete an individualized, technology enhanced learning project based on an area of interest to them, and will have the opportunity, should they wish, to try out these projects in the classroom, online, with colleagues, or in a teaching and learning work situation (e.g., a workshop). As such, this course is designed to be practical. Further, active participation will be encouraged throughout by way of regular discussions and knowledge sharing/feedback opportunities.
  • Developing an Online Assessment Strategy
This facilitated course provides an overview of online assessment approaches that promote student success, academic quality, equity, and inclusivity. Through self-reflection and analysis, participants will work towards building a balanced assessment strategy for their online, hybrid, or Flex courses.
This course is a pre-requisite for all other courses in the Online Assessment series.
  • Participants will choose either the “Authentic Assessments” or the “Alternative Online Assessments” course:
    • Authentic Assessments
This facilitated course provides a comprehensive look at designing, implementing, and evaluating authentic assessments. Participants complete an outline of an authentic assessment for one of their courses.
    • Alternative Online Assessments
This facilitated course provides a comprehensive look at designing, implementing, and evaluating digital media assignments (e.g. videos, website, infographics, etc.). Participants complete an outline of an alternative assessment for one of their courses.

Prerequisite: the first bundle in the Faculty Development Program.

Technology-Enhanced Learning is a 6-week course, running from May 8 to Jun. 12, 2024. It meets weekly in hybrid mode on Wednesdays. The in-person components will take place at Newnham Campus between 9:50 a.m. and 4:10 p.m. Eastern.

“Developing an Online Assessment Strategy,” “Authentic Assessments,” and “Alternative Online Assessments” are asynchronous online courses.
